So Disappointing!
Purchased a pre-painted S2000 door with sidelites. First we were sold on how durable the painted finish would be- apparently much more durable than any paint job we could do. The quote indicated the door was pre-hung. The door was NOT pre-hung and apparently when they pre hung it prior to painting they didn't assure that it was flush, not bowed, or pre drilled with straight holes. The hinges are not flush- in the area near the screws they are flush-as you get closer the hinge pin they stick out. Pre-drilled holes are all crooked. Furthermore when the hardware was removed drill shavings and sawdust fell out. The paint had bubbles that when wiped, wiped the paint right off, some areas also had an orange peel texture. The side light piece was bowed. The sidelite multipoint lock strip was not flush in the door. In the end, this door that should have been pre-hung and an easy install with a durable paint, has the paint missing in areas and the door had to be planed- shaving the paint right off. Far from a quality product- like flushing nearly $4000 down the toilet.

Highly recommended, poor quality. Door was warped from new and never got right. Then glass seal failed so now is cloudy and dirty looking. This door should have never left the factory.

Not worth the price, some quality issues
On paper, the specs for this door are great. However, the actual product falls short in a number of areas. I ordered the door unfinished. There were splinters and tear-out at all the mortises. On the edges, the seams between the fiberglass cladding and the wood substrate were irregular (bare wood exposed in seams) and needed to be filled. There was excess silicone sealant near the sweep seal on the bottom of the door and at the jamb-sill joints. Some of the staples used in the jamb/frame construction were mislocated, resulting in splintered wood in the jab. The jamb-side weather-stripping has some tears/slices in it. All the lockset plates I tried did not fit the mortises in the jamb; in the end, I had to modify the mortises in the jamb to fit one of the most common, Schlage lockset plates. I ordered the door from Home Depot. When the door was delivered, there was no documentation or hardware included (except the plastic plugs used to conceal the countersunk fasteners on the inside window trim). Home Depot contacted the manufacturer and was told many doors lately were errantly shipping without the accompanying hardware and documentation. Home Depot forwarded me installation instructions and a video from Thermatru via email, but I had to install the door using my own hardware (and without the wedges of weatherstripping at the bottom corners, and whatever else hardware was not provided to me). Those instructions were woefully inaccurate and generic. When following those instructions, there is no guarantee that the locking mechanisms in the door will align with the mortises/holes in the jamb after the door is installed. Fortunately I realized this before finishing the install and made the necessary corrections. All said and done, I am satisfied with the final installation. However, for the price, I expect a much higher quality of construction, instruction, and attention to detail.

Defect
We have has this door only one year and the grid on the top has already peeled away from the glass. Very disappointed. Now I need to figure out if this is covered by warranty. Very expensive door for such poor quality.

Solid designs - awful finish quality
I purchased (4) Smooth-Start doors for a home renovation. 3 of the 4 were partially glass and I had requested them painted. The paint quality is equivalent to that of someone spray painting them in a garage. All doors have an orange peel texture as others have noted. So far, one door has multiple scratches and chips in it. We did not discover these until after installing the door and then removing the protective wrapping post-install. I would normally chalk this up to potential transport/install damage, but these defects were on the side of the door which was completely wrapped in plastic and protected with additional cardboard. There was no damage to the cardboard and again, the protective plastic did not come off until after install indicating to me that the door was packaged with this damage. Finally, the sealant/caulk used around the trim and glass was extremely poorly done. It was over-applied oozing out on both the door itself and glass and left to dry. Hoping I can get some touch-up paint and use a razor blade to trim up the caulk to made this door look halfway decent. Definitely expected some better quality for the price.

Like a piece of jewelry
Just put up our new 5-lite door with geometric glass. I can't fully describe how absolutely beautiful it is. Honestly it looks like jewelry. Just the final touch needed for our newly remodeled house. Super heavy duty and well made. Paints up easy. I'm hoping to get the geometric glass ordered for the two windows beside the door, but not sure if ThermaTru sells just the glass. We'll see.

Both Sidelites leaked soon after new.
I have a 3-0 door w/ 2 sidelites. Not long after the house was built I noticed water on the floor. Upon investigation, I saw water dripping from the bottom of the frame, directly under both sidelites. Inspection revealed gaps/holes in the sealant between the sidelite frame and the door, and between the frame and the glass, funneling water down inside the door, ultimately dripping on to the hardwood, causing it to swell. Both sidelites now need to be removed, cleaned up, and re-sealed. For a door that gets minimal sun/weather exposure, I expect better.

Shattered Glass not Replaceable
We rebuilt our house & purchased 7 Smooth Star entry doors. 2 were full glass ( S2000, similar to the S1205). A guy using a string trimmer on nearby weeds hit a rock, which bounced onto our door & shattered the glass.
I was extremely disappointed to learn that the glass cannot be replaced - we have to replace the ENTIRE door!
I don't know if this is common across the industry, but it sure is frustrating.

Love my new door
I have a Smooth Energy Star Plus Style S1LBL door. with Crystalline insert. It was replacing an original door that was so draughty and subject to seasonal heat and cold. I am so happy with my new door and it has lowered our heating/cooling costs considerably.

A Conundrum
Purchased this door to replace my back door which now goes to my enclosed 3-season room. Love the full-lite with built-in blinds. However, the handle strike plate notch did not line up with the handle hole, and the deadbolt strike plate was not notched at all. Thankfully, my installer was incredibly talented and corrected the errors on-site. It just makes me wonder how this door left the warehouse without being properly inspected. For $2000, I definitely expect more. Do better, Therma Tru, do better.

Front door - Just enough decorative touch
My husband and I currently own our first home, and before we purchased this door, we had a steel door with half lite clear glass. The grilles on the glass were yellowing and it just wasn't very attractive. This door is near a front "sun room" area that gets a lot of lite, so the Craftsman size was perfect to add a decorative touch to the front entry.

Rainbows included!
We just had two of these doors installed in our newly renovated contemporary ranch style home. We chose three window lights for our front door and one for the side door. I absolutely adore the doors! The most special thing about them is that when the sun shines through the glass there are little rainbows all over the room!

Great side door.
I bought this door to replace our existing side door that was leaking air. I couldn't be happier that we did. The grilles between the glass are especially nice as I can easily wipe down the glass.
