What is ENERGY STAR?
ENERGY STAR is a voluntary program that was created by the EPA and is administered by the EPA and U.S. Department of Energy. Its goal is to help reduce the energy consumption and help consumers protect the environment. By being ENERGY STAR qualified, your Therma-Tru door is held to one of the highest standards in the country for energy efficiency.
What are the ENERGY STAR criteria?
To be labeled as an ENERGY STAR qualified product, the NFRC ratings (U-Factor and SHGC or Solar Heat Gain Coefficient) ratings must meet the ENERGY STAR Eligibility Criteria for residential doors:

For doors with larger glass, the U-Value and the Solar Heat Gain Coefficient needed to qualify change depending on whether you live in the Northern or Southern part of the country. What are U-Factor and SHGC?
A U-Value (also known as U-Factor) measures how much heat or cold passes through the window or the door. It basically tells you how well a door or window insulates the home. The Solar Heat Gain Coefficient tells you how much heat from the sun is able to pass through the glass of the door or window.
