How To Measure For a New Entry Door

A beautiful new entry door starts with accurate measurements and information about the door configuration you have today. Use these three easy steps to measure your current entry. Once you have your height and width, along with jamb thickness, handing and swing you will be ready to visit a store and place your order. Select your entry door configuration for instructions on how to measure.

  1. Measure the width

    Measure from the left edge of the door to the right edge taking three horizontal measurements. Record the smallest size.

    Measure from the inside of one jamb to the other door or sidelite jamb taking three horizontal measurements. Record the smallest size.

    Measure from the inside of one jamb to the other taking three horizontal measurements. Record the smallest size.

  2. Measure the height

    Taking three vertical measurements, measure the door from top to bottom. Record the smallest size. Note: If your door has a weatherstrip, don’t include it in your measurements.

    Take three vertical measurements from the bottom sill to the top rail. Record the smallest size.

    Take three vertical measurements from the bottom sill to the top rail. Record the smallest size.

  3. Measure the door jamb (depth of wall)

    Measure from the interior trim to the exterior trim.

    Measure from the door slab to the brick mold.

    Measure from the door slab to the brick mold.
