What is a Tru-Defense door system?
Our Tru-Defense door system integrates specific Therma-Tru components engineered and tested to deliver outstanding protection in all kinds of weather conditions. By helping to maximize the seal between the door and frame, a Tru-Defense door system improves performance against air and water infiltration. The Tru-Defense door system is backed by a Warranty Rider for homeowner peace of mind.
What is the Tru-Defense Warranty Rider?
In addition to the lifetime limited warranty on our fiberglass door systems, the Therma-Tru Tru-Defense Door System Rider provides for cash reimbursement that may be used toward secondary damage to flooring and trim, and the labor to make repairs, if water infiltration occurs.
Why wasn’t my door system built as a Tru-Defense door system?
Purchase of a Tru-Defense door system is an optional upgrade. For product availability, contact your local Therma-Tru dealer.
What is the cost to upgrade my door system so it has all the required Therma-Tru components to make it a Tru-Defense door system?

Which door systems are eligible for the Tru-Defense Warranty Rider?
Only a Classic-Craft, Fiber-Classic, Smooth-Star or Pulse fiberglass door slab (and any applied or inserted panels) are eligible.
What configurations are available in the Tru-Defense door system?
The Tru-Defense door system is offered in the following configurations: single door, single door with sidelite(s) and double doors with 7/8” aluminum or stainable astragal.
Is the Tru-Defense door system offered in both inswing and outswing applications?
Yes. For product availability, contact your local Therma-Tru dealer.
Are boxed, or mulled, pre-hung door systems covered under the Tru-Defense Warranty Rider?
How can I identify if I have a Tru-Defense door system?
A Tru-Defense door system includes ALL OF THE FOLLOWING Therma-Tru-approved components:
- Therma-Tru Classic-Craft, Fiber-Classic, Smooth Star or Pulse fiberglass door slab (and any applied or inserted panels).
- Therma-Tru 7-shape corner seal pads (inswing systems only).
- Therma-Tru composite adjustable profiled inswing sill (excludes composite adjustable sills with visible screw cap plugs; this is, excludes Therma-Tru’s basic composite adjustable sill.
- Therma-Tru composite profiled outswing sill).
- Therma-Tru dual-bulb door bottom sweep (gasket) (inswing systems only; no applied door bottom sweep (gasket) on outswing systems).
- Frame that meets the dimensional machining requirements of the Tru-Defense frame specifications.
- Therma-Tru hinges, weatherstrip, glass lites, wood grilles and jamb plugs.
- Therma-Tru multi-point locking system or approved Therma-Tru double-bored lock and deadbolt system; that is, any ANSI Grade 1 or Grade 2 hardware system.
- Therma-Tru 7/8” aluminum or stainable astragal on double door systems.
- Therma-Tru rain guard (required for outswing systems).
In addition, every purchaser of a Tru-Defense door system should receive the following from the dealer
, builder or contractor who installed or sold the product: a Tru-Defense Warranty Rider registration card to register their Tru-Defense door system, the Tru-Defense door system warranty descriptions, Tru-Defense door system troubleshooting tips and water infiltration reimbursement claims procedure.
Am I required to order the Therma-Tru multi-point locking system (MPLS) to qualify for the Tru-Defense Warranty Rider?
No. However, use of an MPLS will qualify your door system for a higher water infiltration reimbursement warranty limit.
What is a bored lock?
A bored lock is industry terminology that simply refers to standard latch-style lock systems.
To be reimbursed under the water infiltration reimbursement terms of the Tru-Defense Warranty Rider, does my door system have to have a sill pan?
No. However, use of a sill pan will qualify your door system for a higher water infiltration reimbursement warranty limit.
Am I required to order a specific frame for my Tru-Defense door system?
The Tru-Defense door system requires the use of a frame that meets the dimensional machining requirements of the Tru-Defense frame specifications.
Is Therma-Tru Same-Day Stain part of the Tru-Defense door system?
No. Therma-Tru Same-Day Stain has a 5-year limited warranty from the date of purchase. Maintenance is required on all Therma-Tru door systems.
What maintenance is required for a Tru-Defense door system?
We require that the warranty holder provide timely, normal maintenance for the Tru-Defense door system, including timely finishing in accordance with our Finishing Instructions.
If I put a mail slot or pet door in my Tru-Defense door system, will I void the Tru-Defense Warranty Rider or Therma-Tru limited warranty?

Do I have to have my door system installed by a Therma-Tru Certified Installer in order for it to qualify as a Tru-Defense door system?
Do I have to register my door system for the Tru-Defense Warranty Rider?
By law, the homeowner is not required to complete a registration and send it in for the Warranty Rider to be valid. However, we recommend that you register your door system so Therma-Tru will have that information on file and be better able to assist you in case you experience an issue in the future. A Warranty Rider registration card will be included in the packet attached to every new Tru-Defense door system. In addition, purchasers of a Tru-Defense door system can register their door purchase on our Warranty Registration page.
Do I have to show proof of purchase?
Yes, we do require proof of purchase.
Is the Tru-Defense Warranty Rider transferable?
No. The Tru-Defense Warranty Rider is not transferable.
