All qualifying projects must be completed by the end of 2010

Maumee, OHIO (October 01, 2010) - The countdown is on until the expiration of the federal Energy Tax Credit on Dec. 31, 2010, so homeowners need to act fast to take advantage of the opportunity.

As part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, homeowners can claim up to a $1,500 tax credit for qualified energy-efficient home improvements made to their principal residence now through the end of the year. This is a tax credit, not a deduction – meaning you get a dollar off your taxes for every qualifying dollar you spend.

For more information, visit www.myenergytax.com. Here you will find an educational video, a list of frequently asked questions to help explain the opportunity at hand, and the tools needed to claim the credit.

“Even though many homeowners may be thinking twice about making home improvements in the current economic climate, this tax credit is a great incentive to add beauty, function and value to your home at a significant discount,” says Jerry Oleshansky, vice president of marketing, Therma-Tru.

An enhanced entryway is an ideal way to use this tax credit. Not only will a new entry or patio door give a much-needed boost to a home’s overall curb appeal and perceived value, energy-efficient fiberglass doors can help lower energy bills.

Therma-Tru is pleased to offer homeowners a variety of energy-efficient entry and patio doors that qualify for the Energy Tax Credit. In fact, most Therma-Tru products qualify by having a U-Factor and Solar Heat Gain Coefficient (SHGC) of 0.30 or lower, which is a measure of a product’s energy efficiency. For a complete list of qualified products, visit www.thermatru.com/taxcredit.

The tax credit is based on 30 percent of the cost of the product, up to $1,500. For example, a $5,000 purchase of a qualifying entry door system will earn the maximum tax credit of $1,500. Installation and labor costs do not qualify for the tax credit. However, the door must be installed by Dec. 31, 2010, to qualify on 2010 tax returns.

To take advantage of this tax credit with Therma-Tru doors, visit www.thermatru.com to select a qualified door and find a dealer near you.

In preparation for 2010 tax returns, homeowners are encouraged to save their sales receipt and the Manufacturer’s Certification Statement, which can be found at www.thermatru.com/taxcredit, for tax record keeping purposes.*
